The world today offers us so many more ways to connect with each other than was ever possible before. Through technology, our circle of acquaintances has expanded to include anyone, anywhere in the world. Yet, with all this connectivity, why do we feel so unhappy? Why do we feel ill at ease in this world? Why do we feel more alone? The reason is that even though we may not realize it, our true self is the soul, and as soul is of the same essence as God, the real connection we seek is the connection to the Oversoul or God. All conflicts, fears, anxieties, all troubles stem from the ego, or sense of separateness from our true selves; the God in us.
The first delusion is that we are separate from others. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us, with the sad result that we don’t care for or treat others in the same way we treat ourselves, and reciprocally, we don’t feel cared for by others.
Feeling separate from our fellow-beings stems from the misconception that we are bodies. In truth, we are not this limited body, which is only our temporary home. We are the power that animates the body; the eternal spirit or soul. It is because the soul has become so identified with the body that it is insecure and fearful, feels pain and helplessness, and when things are taken away or loved ones are to leave, it is hard for the soul to believe in the higher values of life. True happiness only begins when one goes out of one’s little self – the ego – and seeks the larger self. To feed the Soul, one must have contact with God.
Therefore, the root of all evil, Masters tell us, is the imagination of being a separate entity from God. To look upon the God power as something or someone apart from us is folly. Our soul is a part of this ocean of true divine love and happiness. If our lives were directed towards the soul, man would become spiritual, the goal of which is union with the Higher Consciousness. All Scriptures, based on the teachings of the Masters, also tell us that God wants us to love all
What is the remedy?
So everything hangs on realizing that the Power which created and sustains the entire universe, the Godpower or Masterpower, can never be away from you. We only need to bring God back to life within us. He is already there- but in our minds it seems that He is far away.. We simply have to turn our direction towards the Higher Consciousness or God, and to always remember that we cannot be separate from Him, as He is the very life in us. When the illusion of ego is broken, one feels, “I am not apart from others, but others are parts of the One – God- The Master”.
We will never feel alone that way.
Please learn to be receptive to his grace and feel his kindly presence. Riding with you on the buses, chatting with you in the street, sitting with you in the park by your office desk and accompanying you every morning to the office, slowing down by the Lily Pond to check new flowers and walking with you in the evening all the way back by the new moon.
